This year, the 70th season of the main European football championship is being held under the Swiss system for the first time
The current champions of the tournament, Real Madrid, once again confirmed their status, defeating Atletico in a penalty shootout and advancing to the quarter-finals. Last season, Real won the championship title for the fifteenth time and started the new season on a high. However, in the 32nd minute, Atletico forward Julian Alvarez equalized the score, effectively sending the ball into the goal after a corner. The winning goal in the match was scored in the 55th minute by Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz, ensuring a confident victory for his team.
According to the rules, the winner of the Champions League gets the right to participate in the main stage of the next season, 2026, and will also be able to compete for the UEFA Super Cup 2025.
