Spanish Bilbao to host Europa League final
In 2025, the UEFA Europa League will celebrate its 55th anniversary as the second most important club tournament on the continent, organized by UEFA. Let us recall that last season, the tournament was won by the Italian Atalanta, which confidently beat the German Bayer with a score of 3:0 in the final match in Dublin. It is noteworthy that the Russian midfielder Alexei Miranchuk was in the Atalanta squad, but did not take to the field by the decision of the coaching staff. The main hero of the match was striker Ademola Lookman, who scored a hat-trick in the 12th, 25th and 75th minutes, thanks to which Atalanta won this prestigious trophy for the first time. The club's previous achievement was reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2020.
The San Mamés stadium, where the final of the current Europa League season will take place, is the home stadium of Athletic Bilbao. This architectural masterpiece, one of the oldest in the world, was founded on January 20, 1913 and opened on August 21 of the same year. In Spain, only the El Molinón stadium in Gijón is older. Originally designed for 3.5 thousand spectators, after numerous renovations, San Mamés can now accommodate 45 thousand fans from all over the world.
